  • What We're Wearing with Summer's Best Accessory

    Posted on
    By: Kara Neff

Ahh, hats. The halos of fashion that keep the style gods on our side. Topping off every summer outfit with just-right proportions of personality and sophistication, we’re throwing shade like never before. These special little accessories make it easy to use our heads wisely, turning every look into a smart decision. So it’s a happy coincidence that our love for hats matches the intensity of the summer sun.
  • Where We're Taking Our Sundresses This Summer

    By: Kara Neff

Whether Malibu bohemian, Nantucket preppy or somewhere in between, no style fits more squarely between Memorial Day and Labor Day quite like the sundress.

In the rule book to summer style, owning a sundress is the one guideline that no one can overlook: it is a seasonal requirement. Summer owns the sundress like it owns the piña colada. Put simply, it would be entirely out of context in any other season. And in a fashion world without rules, one in which we wear white year round and mix prints like there’s no tomorrow, we’re happy for some constructs -- especially if they're packaged in a breezy linen. Follow along to see all the ways we’re summering in the season’s must-have item.

  • The Future is Floral

    By: Kara Neff

Summer is coming up rosy, and to keep in line with the season’s mood, we are expressing ourselves in the only way we know how: by wearing our bouquets on our sleeves. Of all the ways we love prints, we love a good floral print the best. Something so classically feminine maintains a statement-making boldness in ways that most other prints can’t. What sets the floral print apart from, say, stripes and polka dots, is its grandeur. Delivering a message, much like 10 long-stemmed roses, can make an average outfit into a fall-in-love-with, can’t-live-without kind of ensemble. And as if that weren’t enough, we love it for its daring nature and ability to transcend trends. Be it petunias, peonies or poppies, these flowers have staying power. Next up, find a few of our favorite ways to wear floral prints.
  • The Denim Skirt Is Back – And For Good Reason

When it comes to dressing, we abide by a pretty strict set of rules. At the forefront, lies one cardinal statute that we find absolutely imperative to the act of getting dressed. Comfort – and comfort alone – reigns supreme. This philosophy is one we discuss time and time again, not because we’re rule-followers, but because we know that with comfort comes confidence. And confidence, as we know, is the key to a well-curated outfit; without it, everything falls flat.

If we’re ranking seasons – and we are – summer takes the cake. But with its fresh blooms and newly warm temps, spring is a close runner up. Whether we’re emerging from hibernation or the fact that summer is within reach, we’re not keeping count. What we do know is that spring is summer’s gatekeeper, and thus, we hold it in very high regard. It takes us roughly 14 weeks from winter’s end for us to get to summer, the holy grail of seasons. With temperatures averaging around 72 degrees, our outlook on spring is, for good reason, as bright as ever. And if the aim is for our looks to match our carefree mindset (and it is), then we’re in no shortage of everything we need. Now that we’re halfway through spring, here are 7 ways to get you through the rest of the season and into summer in style.

A cute shirt, or a great pair of designer jeans, are great but you still need to know the basics of modern fashion to style your outfit just right. Everyone wants to stand out, and while many clothing items might favor each other, styling them differently is your key to standing out and getting noticed.

  • Besting Boho- Not Just For Coachella

    Posted on
    By: Kara Neff

Coachella, or perhaps more broadly festival season, invites an allure all its own. Stylistically speaking, pieces are meant to evoke whimsy. Specifically, we reserve this style space for the charming, fluid and, at its best, ethereal beauty of the bohemian woman. Kate Hudson’s character in Almost Famous comes to mind. The problem with suede, faux fur, crochet and bare midriffs, you ask? Not much (these are a few of our favorite things), unless you’re a 9 to 5-er (most of us are). Logic would tell us that festival clothes belong at, well, festivals. But we’re savvier than that. We like to buy for longevity, and for that reason, we’re doing a deep dive investigation into how to make your desert vibes work in more venues than one. Hint: It’s easier than you think.

The modern-day activist is a pioneer in protest. Fighting for what you believe in is no longer confined to homemade posters and organized marches. Today, people march to the beat of their own drum, expressing what they care about through a multitude of different mediums. Each activist uses their individual skill set and platform to portray their own unique cause. While some take to photography or film, others have taken to fashion.

Let’s take a moment to reminisce on the classic khaki. In its entirety, this signature style signaled an important moment in fashion history. Think about it; in America circa 1990, you couldn’t walk around anywhere without spotting this military tone. It’s true that fashions fade, but style is eternal, and 2017’s most stylish fashionistas are bringing this tried trend back to life.

  • Why the Color Pink Is On Our Radar

    By: Kara Neff

Pink, the color we hope to never be in short supply, is happily at the top of every fashion editor’s list this year. If we’ve learned anything from Fashion Week, it’s that if a color is a mainstay, pink is the ringleader. For us, pink is the most approachable shade in our closets, especially when we’re in need of an extra dose of color. Whether we’re sporting a bright lipstick or a boldly hued shoe, we’re always ready and willing to dip into this color pool.

Cyclical fashion is a tale as old as time. Trends come, and trends go, but one thing will always remain true: not all trends are created equal. We’ve seen style resurrections from plenty of eras, and what we’ve learned is that sometimes there are winners. But, as life doesn’t always deal a fair hand, there are almost always losers too. It’s inevitable.
  • "What Are You Doing Tonight?" And Other Texts from Your Closet

    By: Kara Neff

Saturday night is near, and your closet called to remind you of one tiny detail: “You’ve got big plans.” Your closet, a most trusted ally, keeps tabs on your calendar closer than anyone because it’s got your back like that. Your closet wants what’s best for you and, when fully stocked, prides itself on keeping you covered. No matter what the scenario – rager or relaxed – there’s nothing we rely on more than this trustworthy cubby.

Though we want it to be as technologically refined as Cher’s from Clueless, spitting out the perfect ensemble is not what most New Yorkers’ apartment closets (more like small, cramped corners) are equipped to do. Choosing the perfect outfit, then, is something of a sacred ritual between you and your closet. Something close to a séance but not quite a church service, the two of you religiously pour over the choices at hand to find the just-right fit on a case-by-case basis.

Spring elicits so much expectation. We're eager for warmer temps, sun-filled afternoons, and longer days. But mainly, we're ready to ditch our drab, boxy winter frocks for something a little more ... fun. In line with our expectations of budding greenery and sun-filled afternoons, spring is coming up just as rosy as we would hope. From the runways to the streets, we’re seeing color in spades, charismatic stripes, statement-making silhouettes, and a heavy dose of florals.
  • Why Athleisure is Still a Thing

    By: Kara Neff

Three pivotal factors brought athleisure into the mainstream in the 1990s: Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, and a Spice Girl named Mel C. In our humble opinion, it’s to their credit that this look has any appeal today. So, when we started to see this trend pop up again on the Hadid sisters and their inner circle, we realized we could be living our best life – in the comfort and security of tracksuits and sneakers.

Notorious among the interior design and graphic art circles, Pantone is the litmus test for tastemakers. Building Greenery, Pantone’s lush color of the year, into our wardrobes only felt, well, natural.

The start of the year kicked off with a bang, and an enlivening shade of green is precisely what the doctor ordered, making us eager to equip our closets with an ample dose of this intoxicating hue

In the past couple of years, a minimalist movement has encouraged major purging and a much leaner closet. It was surprisingly liberating to be lifted of the weight of too many options. The added bonus is that we hone in on our personal styles by maintaining structures that are specific to us each as individuals. This is something we can get on board with, especially if it means cutting down our prep time in the AM.

  • Loosening Our Grip: A Brief Exploration of Corsets

    By: Kara Neff

I've approached the concept of the comeback corset matter-of-factly and not strictly sartorially. And perhaps it's to my detriment, because this trend has lasted longer than I anticipated—and it doesn't appear to be going away any time soon. After looking at the longstanding history of this garment, I began to think that reprising it over top of clothing is, well, over the top. Hear me out.
  • I've worked in fashion long enough to know that even certain brands require an all-black dress code. It does of course encourage a cohesive brand look, but it also resonates on a much higher level. It's sophisticated, plain and simple. So, if we take a deeper look, what makes monochromatic black universally appealing?

  • 2016: The Year of the Cold Shoulder

    By: Kara Neff

It was THE trend of the year. With its timeless and uncomplicated appeal, the bare shoulder was a look we all warmed up to pretty quickly. It was the perfect cut that made sexy both effortless and approachable. Few pieces come along in one’s lifetime that can make these claims: classy yet a touch edgy; subtle yet undeniably sexy; and appropriate for any age. In 2016, we hooked up with the off-the-shoulder cut. In 2017, we’re involved in a full-fledged romance.

Trends are always popping back up out of the woodwork. I don’t think anyone expected the resurgence of Birkenstocks, and it’s hard to wrap one’s mind around the return of JNCO jeans. And while some trend reruns are welcomed with open arms, some just kind of slide into popularity well beneath the radar. Such is the case with the rise of the flair trend. You know the one I’m referring to: patches and pins and other small oddities that we festoon onto our jackets, bags, and other articles of clothing.
